John was born in the small southern West Virginia town of Mullens on an election-day Tuesday in 1975. His grandfather introduced John to the woods surrounding his home nearly from birth, frequently taking John for hikes in a backpack carrier, and John spent a large portion of his childhood exploring the forest and building a connection to it that would later echo throughout his creative work.
John’s interest in photography began at an early age, when at age four his parents provided him with a simple Kodak Instamatic. Today, he enjoys photographing birds of all sorts through the viewfinder of a state-of-the-art digital SLR, rendering the detail of each feather and capturing the very essence of Nature with each shot.
John’s bird photos have appeared in Birder’s World, Wild Bird, and Birds & Blooms and have won local photography awards.
