Goblin Valley takes on many different aspects depending on where you physically stand. From the parking area above, the entire valley seems filled with the hoodoos, or goblins, yet within the amphitheater itself, there are many open spaces like this one.
Distances are deceiving: the White Rim rocks are nearly 1000 feet below the edge of the Island in the Sky, with the Colorado and Green Rivers another 800-plus feet beneath the canyon rim. It's a long way down! During the early afternoon, the clouds began moving back in (and cast some dramatic shadows across the White Rim): a sign of the squall to come.
After the storm moved out, there wasn't much of the golden hour left, but all of the red sandstone formations had a fresh dusting of snow.
